Birjer Jarl Hotell
Case
Hotell Birger Jarl in Stockholm underwent a full renovation and needed beutiful lighting pieces to soften and elevate the atmosphere in the reception, restaurant, and selected suites. PMI, represented by interior designer Maria Gustavsson, contacted me to develop bespoke lamps that would complement the new interior concept while adding a refined, artistic expression.
In addition to the lighting, the hotel required a tailor-made sign for its garment-care room (“strykcenter”), designed to align with the hotel’s visual identity and provide clear functionality for staff.
Based on our initial meeting, I created a proposal that included several lamp configurations as well as a design concept for the custom sign.
What we did
I delivered a selection of handmade mesh lamps called Heat, designed to create warm visual focal points throughout the hotel.
The Heat lamps are produced for easy installation:
· complete ceiling cup and hanging hardware
· 3-meter cable for flexible placement
· mesh components shipped in custom-designed protective packaging
· straightforward assembly on site
PMI’s team installed a cluster of lamps in the restaurant area, and I provided remote support via phone and FaceTime to assist the installers and ensure the lamps were arranged with the correct flow and proportions.
I also advised on the choice of E27 LED bulbs — warm, filament-style bulbs suitable for dimming depending on the selected model — to achieve the desired lighting atmosphere.
In collaboration with Maria, I also designed a unique sign for the garment-care room featuring layered metal mesh and clearly readable lettering. The sign was fully fabricated in my studio, assembled, carefully packaged, and shipped to the hotel, where the staff installed it.
The outcome
The final installation includes a curated group of lamps in the restaurant, additional pieces in the reception area, and selected lighting in the hotel suites.
The handcrafted lamps bring warmth, depth, and visual softness to the newly renovated spaces, while the custom sign provides a functional and aesthetically consistent solution.
Both the hotel staff and visitors have given highly positive feedback, noting the welcoming atmosphere and the distinctive craftsmanship the pieces add to the environment.
