HEAT pendant lamp
Designed by Johanna Forsberg
Produced by Northern
This week Northern launch their debut collection at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, 6-10 February showcasing the beauty of natural materials, classic sensibilities and an edgy approach to contemporary design.
As art and craft collide, they spark a glowing cloud of fire.
Gleaming brass mesh was the starting point for this pendant lamp, which I artistically transformed into an illuminating cloud of fire. Once the light is turned off, the fire disappears, giving the shade a translucent appearance. Heat was born out of experiments with clashing materials and the inspiration to create a large pendant light characterised by contrasts. The lamp is fiery one minute, then tranquil the next, creating eye-catching features in either mode. Whatever mode you choose, Heat is a dynamic lamp that fills the interior with creativity and imagination.
Heat was created with a social agenda in mind. With a goal to stimulate creativity among marginalised members of society, I teamed up with a local development agency to train local asylum seekers and unemployed migrants to manufacture Heat’s shade. They craft each lamp by hand, making each design as unique as the individual producing it.
